At the Halalt Gym, four sessions of boxing took place with the after-school program. The enthusiasm among these young participants was palpable, as they eagerly embraced the opportunity to learn boxing techniques and channel their energy constructively.

Tracey Norris, Halalt After School Program Coordinator, observed a remarkable change in the children's demeanor since the boxing program. She noted, "Since the kids started the boxing program, they have been more open and active. It's built up more encouragement and gets them involved with different things that we are introducing to them, it has made a change in ways that they don't even realize."

In Snaw-Naw-As, Thursday evening’s many children and youth gathered for Boxing. With 19 participants ranging from 4 to 18 years old, the program transcended the boundaries of a typical boxing class, becoming a transformative experience for all involved. Mitzi expressed, "From day one, the program has been dedicated to nurturing holistic development through workouts and engaging activities to strengthening life skills such as discipline, perseverance, respect, and self-respect."

Initially, children and youth approached boxing with hesitance and uncertainty, but quickly emerged with a remarkable sense of self-assurance and newfound confidence. The youth discovered that boxing wasn't just about physical prowess; it was about resilience and self-discovery. One diligent youth, Amberlee, would arrive early to complete her homework before each session, showcasing a commitment to both academics and physical activity. She expresses, “I’m proud of myself for participating in something. I love this group and we have a lot of fun!” Benson, one of the young gentlemen, reflected, "Boxing has helped me with my coordination, it is epic and beautiful." Mateo adds, "It's taught me how to defend my ground respectfully." Even the most reserved participants demonstrated the power of venturing beyond one's comfort zone and embracing new experiences.

Eli Wyse and Emily Simpson, the dedicated coaches behind the success of the boxing program, played a pivotal role in shaping the experience for these young participants. Through their expertise in teaching various techniques and fostering a sense of discipline and teamwork, Eli and Emily ensured the sessions were enjoyable and educational experiences. Jaden, a young participant, summed up the sentiment, "We have amazing instructors who teach us how to punch and dodge correctly, if we need to defend ourselves. I also like the fruit and snacks that we are fed at each session too!"

Providing Boxing programs for our Nations has proven to be a valuable opportunity for young individuals facing challenges at home and school. Beyond the obvious physical advantages, this sport offers a route to personal development, fostering traits such as discipline, confidence, and resilience. By tapping into the transformative potential of boxing, we can equip the next generation with the tools they need to overcome obstacles and realize their fullest potential.
